KAPATAGAN POST HARVEST FACILITY (2008)

Advanced post harvest technology such as cold storage helps address food loss and farmer’s marginal income in  a vegetable industry. But, in agricultural areas with  low availability of infrastructure and utilities that could sustain  such technology, cold storage is highly and costly maintained. The availability of  the traditional technology that speaks of subsistence and sustainability (Lancaster and Coursey, 1984) allows the post harvest facility to be less independent on those facilities. Likewise, it is important to apply this ‘”rural technology or traditional technology ”  in the post harvest facility model that this study had aim to come up with.

Arki Exhibit for Dibuho ’07

Dibuho Design Competition was an opportunity for all arki students in all different levels to exhibit their craft in architectural designing skills. The competition had four level category. As senior students, not just competitors, we were in-charge working for the exhibit.

Architects are primarily driven by the creative manipulation of mass, space, volume, texture, light, shadow, materials, program, and pragmatic elements such as cost, construction and technology, in order to achieve an end which is aesthetic, functional and often artistic. This distinguishes architecture from engineering design, which is driven primarily by the creative manipulation of materials and forms using mathematical and scientific principles.

Separate from the design process, architecture is also experienced ^[1] through the senses, which therefore gives rise to aural ^[2] , visual, olfactory ^[3], and tactile ^[4] architecture. As people move through a space, architecture is experienced as a time sequence. ^[5] Even though our culture considers architecture to be a visual experience, the other senses play a role in how we experience both natural and built environments. Attitudes towards the senses depend on culture ^[6]. The design process and the sensory experience of a space are distinctly separate views, each with its own language and assumptions.

Architectural works are perceived as cultural and political symbols and works of art. Historical civilizations are often known primarily through their architectural achievements. Such buildings as the pyramids of Egypt and the Roman Colosseum are cultural symbols, and are an important link in public consciousness, even when scholars have discovered much about a past civilization through other means. Cities, regions and cultures continue to identify themselves with (and are known by) their architectural monuments.
